FSSAI Registration: Eligibility, Documentation, Fees, Processing

Are you into a food-related business? If yes, do you know getting FSSAI registration is a must for the FBO’s (Food business operators)? Know the full details regarding FSSAI registration, its eligibility, documentation, fees, and procedure of processing the application.

FSSAI has upgraded its portal to enable it to PAN India. Earlier the application process was initiated on FLRS i.e. Food licensing and registration system and from 1st November 2020 onward process has been migrated to the latest version of the portal i.e., FoSCoS

FLRS to  FoSCos

Users who have already registered on FLRS are now required to visit FoSCos and can use their earlier User ID and Password for login purposes.

Exception:

FBO (Food Business operators) having License/ Registration of premises at Indian Railways and their concerned authorities will have to continue to operate on the older version i.e. FLRS.

Applicant can find various facility available on FoSCos such as:

Application has to enter their application reference number and the captcha code as shown in the image and then click no submit.

Know your Officer

An applicant can search for their officer as per the jurisdiction. You will just have to select the desired state and district and enter the captcha code as shown in the image.

You will be able to fetch the details of officers with their designation, email id, and the type of officer i.e., whether they are the central authority or state authority as shown in the image below.

You can search for any FBO unit by entering the details such as Company name, registration number and the captcha code.

Application Process

Getting FSSAI registration certificate/ license is a four-stage process:

Stage 1Confirmation of Jurisdiction of application & offline fee receipt (if any) *  

*In case you have opted for offline payment of challan through SBI challan.
Stage 2Applicant’s uploaded documents will get scrutinize
Stage 3Officer can conduct an inspection of the premises based on the documents available to them prior grant of license if it feels necessary to do so.
Stage 4Issuance of Registration Certificate/ License

How to apply for FSSAI registration/ License

Step 1:

Signing up with your basic details such as Applicant name, email id, mobile, login Id, and password.

After signing up, login with your user id and password

Step 2:

On your dashboard, from the extreme left menu, select “Apply for New License/ Registration”

  • Select Kind of Business

The applicant has to select the state where the FBO is located for which license/ registration is required.

Applicant will be issued separate license for each location of FBO.

Exception: In the case of a transporter, they shall be issued a single license for all vehicles of a single transporter/ business.

Note: In case the Food business operator is having a business premise/ unit located in more than one state, in that case, that FBO has to declare:

  1. One unit: As Head Office and shall have to obtain Central license for the particular unit
  2. Other location/unit: obtain registration/license as per the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria & Fee Structure

  • Type of Business

You can select from the available option the type of business you are into.

  • Detail of Turnover

After selecting the eligible category, you will have to select the sub-category. For example under Retail/ Trade if we select Retailer then;

We have to specify our turnover which can be greater than 20 crores, or up to 20 crores or up to 12 lakhs.

After selecting the option, proceed with the application.

  • View Eligibility

After you have entered the details of KOB and Turnover, it will redirect you to the eligibility page where the applicant can see the KOB and License category

  • Fill the Form A for registration certificate Details

The following information is required to be entered by the applicant for applying for the registration certificate

  1. Name of applicant/ company
  2. Address of premises where FBO is located
  3. Correspondence address
  4. Contact details
  5. Number of years you want to apply for ranging from 1 year to 5 years
  6. Details of Food items proposed to be manufactured or sold
  7. Food safety Mitra details (if applicable)
  8. Intended date of start of FBO
  9. Information regarding the source of water/ power supply
  • Upload the documents in support of your application
  • Make a payment online or offline as per your convenience.
  • Get the e-receipt in case of online payment as shown in the video
  • Check your application status
  • Get your registration certificate on your email id.
